Zubiri or Pimentel?

What's my take on this?

Zubiri will be declared the winner. He will take the post as the Philippines 12th Senator in the elections held last month.

On the news:

The Supreme Court en banc on Thursday dismissed opposition senatorial candidate Aquilino Pimentel III’s petition seeking a temporary restraining order against the recanvassing of votes in Maguindanao province.

After the canvassing, bye bye to Pimentel. As always, we will read, hear, see, complaints of cheating etc. People will take this as normal - sour losers will always do complain. Or else people will admire him more for being a "sports" guy similar to Gore when he conceded the US Presidency to Bush by a mere few hundred votes.

But will he? I doubt it.

For taking the losing stance with dignity, I admire Defensor and Recto. I did not see any wrinkles and worries in the face of Pichay during his interview with the ANC.

Well.........I hope by July 1, all this will stop. And we can all move on....whatever....

Big Island Hawaii Luxury Homes

Beach, Sun, Sand, and a great accommodation are some of the musts that I can think of, for my ideal vacation. Although there are many places where we can go for a vacation, Hawaii would be one of the best places where we can have all of these amenities. Imagine waking up in the morning, stretching yourself on a terrace and looking at the sea, and the beaches that is as far as your eyes can see!

Ok, if you decide to go to Hawaii for your short taste of paradise; and you are looking for a suitable accommodation, you can try the Hawaiian Beach Rentals that offers a stunning array of vacation rentals which would, most likely, provide you with your ideal beach front accommodation.

The best way to enjoy your vacation is to rent a beach front luxury home (villa or a condo). A luxury home would offer a living style that can't be matched by a hotel.

For further information visit the Hawaiian Beach Rentals.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

There is a spoiler going around the internet about the latest "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" which is scheduled to be released on July 21.

The hacker, by the name "Gabriel," claimed to have taken a digital copy of the author J.K. Rowling's seventh and final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," by breaking into a computer at London-based Bloomsbury Publishing Plc.

The spoiler is as follows:
===============

Dear my brothers,

Voldemort killed Hermione. Yes, that's true. And we knew that 2 days ago.

This is the end of the not yet published (someone could call that 0day) book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows .

At the end of the story Hagrid was killed by Snape in the attempt of ambush Hermione and Ron.

Ron and Hermione flees in privet drive but Voldermort, surprising them, engaged a magical duel with Ron and Hermione.

Voldemort attacked trough the imperius curse and Hermione, to protect the life of Ron fight hardly for more than 6 pages and then finally die.
(boring, very boring... it's always the same story!)

Then, to make a long story short, Harry came up, killed all the bad guys and Hogwarts against became a good place to stay and have fun.

Ah, i missed one important information about Draco Malfoy, he started to create Horcrux (for fun and profit!).

The end.

Plundered watch

I could not agree more with todays Editorial of Inquirer, so I am posting it here.

Last updated 02:14am (Mla time) 06/21/2007

MANILA, Philippines -- Carol Araullo, erstwhile head of PlunderWatch and now chair of the mass-based Bagong Alyansang Makabayan, may have thought she was being merely practical when she told reporters during the oral summation phase of the Joseph Estrada plunder trial last week that she was no longer keen on the deposed president’s conviction. In truth, she was being extremely cynical.

Her idea of justice, apparently, is inseparable from her politics. Which is unfortunate, because we shared the group’s cause in its early days.

“We still believe that 'Erap' [Estrada] should be held accountable for the things that he did,” Araullo told reporters. “[But] the reason why you no longer see these groups calling for Mr. Estrada’s conviction is because the sins of the Arroyo administration are much graver. You have political killings, graft and corruption, electoral fraud.”

Well, yes, but does any of these expiate Joseph Estrada’s original sin? Does President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s alleged stealing of the 2004 vote, to give one example, make Estrada’s alleged crime, committed between 1998 and 2000, less criminal?

Apparently, the answer is yes, when the groups one is associated with, such as the Bayan Muna party-list group, strike an election-period arrangement with Estrada’s camp, in a (largely successful) national campaign against administration candidates. That’s the trouble when cases are politicized; the ends of justice are distorted by tactical alliances.

Last Friday, Araullo also questioned the very right of the anti-graft court Sandiganbayan to convict Estrada, revealing in the process a telltale conflation of the executive with the judiciary. “If President Estrada will be convicted, it should not be by this administration because it doesn’t have the moral ascendancy.”

Despite the use of the language of morality, the ascendancy assumption is 100-percent political. It is all about who gets the credit, and who shouldn’t. Consider her statement again; even if the evidence is there to convict, conviction “should not be by this administration.” That’s the trouble when cases are politicized; the ends of justice, even when already tantalizingly near, are forgotten in the single-minded pursuit of political objectives.

The assumption that the administration will dictate the terms of the decision is also an old one, and used often by PlunderWatch in its many statements over the years. But consider the irony. In 2002, it sought to have Estrada, his wife Loi and their son Jinggoy cited for contempt of court, for issuing statements that, the group alleged, impugned the very integrity of the judicial system.

The Sandiganbayan dismissed the suit, and ever since PlunderWatch has blamed the government lawyers prosecuting Estrada for failing to support the petition. We were “marginalized,” Araullo said in 2002. Ever since then, Araullo said, PlunderWatch has “lost the interest to mobilize” people to monitor the trial. And ever since then, the group has been issuing statements that, from one angle, can also be understood as undermining the justice system.

Araullo gave an example only last Friday: “The trial is only for political expediency. I don’t believe it will be expedient for the Arroyo administration to have a conviction at this time.”

So which, really, is which? No will to convict, or no right to convict? Even PlunderWatch is unsure.

Back when the group was pushing for Estrada’s conviction, Araullo said, quite eloquently: “The message we are sending about Edsa [People Power] is not justice. It is impunity. It is a message that says people who do wrong can get away with it. If we continue to let the likes of Estrada get away with what they’ve done, then Edsa would be useless.”

That’s the problem with politicized cases: watchdogs speak in absolutes (we won’t let Estrada get away with what he’s done), but end up acting in a manner that relativizes the ends of justice (we won’t let Estrada get away, except, of course, if Arroyo is in our sights).

If PlunderWatch has more evidence against President Arroyo, then by all means let it file another plunder case against her. But now, more than ever, the Estrada plunder trial bears close watching. It’s a shame that politics has kept Araullo and PlunderWatch away from it.

Buying Physical Gold

If you are interested in obtaining physical gold, and not just paper gold, or e-gold which are mostly virtual money or virtual gold, you can easily acquire them through Monex Deposit Company (MDC). You can purchase gold or other precious metals in bars, coin or ingot form for immediate personal delivery or arrange for convenient and safe storage at an independent bank or depository of your choice. The Monex companies have been on the field of trading precious metals for over 30 years; and have been America's gold and precious metals investment leader.

Gold has long been considered one of the most precious metals, and its value has been used as the standard for many currencies (known as the gold standard) in history. Gold has been used as a symbol for purity, value, royalty, and particularly roles that combine these properties. Gold is a sign of wealth and prestige.

What's up again?

Its' been a full year now since I left my job in KSA! Weeeha! Its' also been a full year now since I have been jobless. A full year of being tambay, hehehe!

Ni...how..

The wonderful thing is, my assets grew by at least 20%. Yesterday, I paid in full the lot sold to me a few months ago. My decision to pay in full was prompted by the on-going development in that site: a school and a hospital was being constructed a few meters away; I reckon, the market value of the land would shoot up, hehehe. I expect the TCT to be released to me by end of next month. Besides, I will use the lot as a parking area for the increasing number of vehicles that I am acquiring.

************

Once the TCT is released, I will use it as a guarantee to a loan I will apply for next month. The proceeds of the loan will be used to buy franchises and multicabs. This is a new business I am going into due to a press release this month that construction of Robinsons Mall and a Hotel in the City will be started in October, and is expected to open by December 2008.To make sure that I will get a franchise for the ideal route, and before prices go up. I wanted to be there first, this early hehehe. The downside is that, the prices of multicabs have gone up to stratosphere levels! Let us see what happens.

************

Also, a few days ago. I acquired, out of the blue, freezers! I bought three huge freezers on a bargain! I bought them because they were soo cheap, and the owner was leaving the country ASAP. I have in mind various options how I will monetize these freezers! Maybe I will put up a meat shop, or maybe sell ice candy, hehehe.

************

My Agri-lending business is doing great, and in fact is the backbone of all my businesses. I have expanded to two more farming communities, and next cropping, I expect to earn an additional few hundreds of sacks of rice on interests alone. I infused a few hundred thousands to the business, to earn this additional interests.

************

My adsense income is a bit steady for the past two months. I really should have more time blogging.

************

My charity work for the past months was in full blast. It consumed more resources and time than I anticipated.Hay.....my friends joked that the reason I am working hard and looking for more money is...so that I can sponsor and help more people, hehehehe! Hai....... pero cge lang...ganyan talaga ang buhay.

The Central Bank (probably) heard me

I posted a warning on the Peso:Dollar exchange rate on this blog last May 23. It is comforting to know that the Central Bank of the Philippines issued similar warning today. On the news (PDI):

The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, the Philippines' central bank, on Monday expressed concern over the peso's rapid rise against the U.S. dollar. BSP governor Amando Tetangco Jr. said the sudden strength of the local currency might have some "disruptive effects" on the economy.

Tetangco told reporters in Manila, "There's a bit of concern with the rate of appreciation, which may cause volatility and lead to some disruptive effects. We prefer to see an orderly adjustment."

Overseas workers

Just observations...

We Pinoys love whining, we whine even when there's just droplets of rain, we whine when it's too hot, we whine when it's cold, even the opposition when they sweeped the Senate race whined that they were being cheated. Some voters in the Visayas whined that they just got 1000 pesos during the last elections, some whined that they just got 30 pesos etc. When the countrys' economic indicators are up, we whined, when its down we also whined, etc. etc. All I am saying is... we just love whining! hahahaha. We will whine about everything and anything.

Actually, my post today is about the trends in overseas workers that I have observed in the news over the past several months. And I am sure Pinoys will whine about these sooner or later. These are:

1. The Chinese overseas workers are invading the Middle East and Africa in numerous numbers. Soon they will be competing with our OFWs on Nursing, Engineering, and DH, among other jobs.

2. The Japanese are joining, and will become more aggressive in the years ahead in looking for overseas jobs. On the news (from IHT):

One of the hottest exports from Japan these days is not video games or eco-friendly cars. It is engineers.

As the once-vaunted Japanese electronics industry has downsized to survive global competition, it has inadvertently set off a brain drain. Thousands of Japanese engineers and other industry professionals have gone to Taiwan, South Korea and China to seek work at aggressive, fast-growing companies on the prowl for access to Japanese technological skills.

3. Most of the African countries will become strong competitors on low paying overseas jobs in the years ahead.

But, ...but

a. Pinoy DH will remain the most expensive in the international markets for many years.

b. Pinoy (at least in ASEAN) will remain on top when it comes to Home-based internet jobs such as transcription, contact (call center), and even blogging!

c. Even if Japanese, Chinese, and Korean Engineers will join the global migration for jobs, Pinoys engineers will still have an advantage.

d. Pinoy overseas entertainers will still dominate their niche particularly in the Middle east and Japan.

So? wala lang. I guess the government should take these trends into account in their policy making efforts.
